Never before have I been captivated by a piece of furniture as I have been with the Rock lamp by Diesel (with Foscarini). I know-I know, I completely missed it when the lamp was released in 2010, but like all good design, it thankfully doesn’t age very quickly. Redemption.
I spotted this lamp about a year ago and have been infatuated with it ever since. Part of the street fashion icon Diesel’s Successful Living range of lamps (yup, and you thought they only sold torn jeans and barely-there hotpants…for dudes) in partnership with Italian lighting giant Foscarini, the Rock lamp is probably thé standout item in this immensely exciting range of lamps.
The idea behind the Rock lamp is that of a volcanic rock that breaks apart and it is this irregular geodesic dome of sorts that is most intriguing, the rough shapes and asymmetry captivating the eye, yet blending seamlessly with more classic design pieces due to its simple overall shape.
Made from lacquered polycarbonate, two versions of the Rock lamp are available, a floor standing version with adjustable lamp angle, and a suspended version. Both are available in dark or white colour options. The dark colour option is a rough finished, deep brown, with golden highlights outside, and a smooth mother of pear inside. The while colour option is a bright white, rough finished, and smooth white on the inside.
